TSLY Options Trade Analysis
On August 11, 2025, Tesla stock (TSLA) opened at a price of $335.00, about 1.62% higher than its previous close of $329.65 on August 8, 2025. In response, YieldMax closed multiple positions that were close to being assigned and spent about $13.97M closing out positions that were near TSLA’s trading price. These are the option trades noted under bought-to-close (“BC”).
To help offset costs, YieldMax was also able to sell some of the call options it previously owned. These are the options noted under sell-to-close (“S”).
Finally, YieldMax opened multiple new call spread positions, all set to expire by the end of this week, to generate more option premium and readjust option positions to TSLA’s new stock prices.
The first call spread includes a short call position with a strike price of 355 and a long call position at 375. Compared to TSLA’s price range of 335 to 340 on August 11, the short position is approximately 4-6% out-of-the-money (“OTM”) while the long position is approximately 10-12% OTM.
YieldMax sold a total of 6000 contracts for this particular call spread and generated a net premium of about $1.67M.
The second call spread is slightly closer to the money with an initial short position at 352.5 and a long position at 370, or approximately 3-5% and 8-10% OTM, respectively.
YieldMax only sold 2000 contracts in this call spread trade and generated a net premium of $556K.
Overall, however, YieldMax incurred major trading costs on August 11, 2025, with a net loss of over $2.2M. Much of this stemmed from closing short call positions that had fallen in-the-money (“ITM”).
